Testimonies

I don't really know how I can put into words on how Oaks Church helped me over these past couple of years.

But I'll do my best….

Over these past years of knowing the people within the church, I don't think I would be here to say this. I was on the sick, claiming benefits, which was not exactly helping me due to a back injury which in turn triggered a severe case of depression.
I had actually got to that point in which I was going to end my life because I didn't think my life was going to get any better. Then due to family issues I had to move somewhere which was within my budget and it brought me to live in an area where people within the church lived. But one day while in a depressed state I herd André's voice so I went to say hello, and from that day I slowly got to know the people in the church and their infectious love for life started to seep into me to not feel depressed anymore because I felt needed again. Over time I got invited to Oaks Church where I accepted Jesus into my life, met other's that were in a similar situation which helped start to build my confidence up again. During these years the church didn't give up on me even when I wanted to give up on myself. They helped me through the good days, bad days and the very bad days which was and still is a blessing for me, just to know that I can rely on them.
Sixteen months ago I got a job again after being on benefits for four long and tiring years. This only came along though prayer to God and with the help from the church, praying none stop and helping me build my confidence for interviews and being motivated to get out there and work again. There is nothing I wouldn't do for the church just to say thank you for helping me. I tell you finding work again after four years was truly amazing for my life and my health, and I have great respect for the church congregation and especially God for giving me the chance to live again. I can honestly tell you that I wouldn't be here today two and a half years on, out off depression and off benefits; working and being a tax payer again just gave me hope again for the future.

Where it all started

It all started in a house in Close House, Bishop Auckland when there was a expression in the community for a need for a church. People then started gathering for the purpose of worshipping God and it was officially declared as a church in 2005.
From there as the church started growing we moved in 2008 to the Shildon Sunnydale leisure centre for our Sunday celebrations.
